What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a clinically proven weight loss aid prescribed to help with weight loss when other efforts have been ineffective. It works by acting on hormones responsible for blood sugar and appetite control. This reduces hunger and helps improve blood sugar levels. The once-weekly self-administering pen is user-friendly.
How Mounjaro Works?
Mounjaro works by activating both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Here's how it affects the body: GLP-1 Receptor Activation: Similar to other GLP-1 receptor agonists (like Ozempic or Wegovy), Mounjaro helps regulate blood sugar levels by promoting insulin release when blood sugar is high and reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver. It also slows gastric emptying, which helps you feel fuller longer and reduces hunger. GIP Receptor Activation: The addition of the GIP receptor stimulation is thought to help improve insulin sensitivity and also contribute to fat loss. GIP is a hormone that helps regulate fat metabolism and plays a role in fat storage and breakdown.

Mounjaro comes in a pre-filled pen that is designed to deliver the medication under your skin (subcutaneously). Mounjaro is given as a weekly injection.
Remove the KwikPen from the packaging, and check the expiration date Next, make sure that the site of the skin on your stomach, upper arm, or thigh is clean and dry Remove the cap from the pen and wipe the injection site with an alcohol swab Choose a new needle. This helps prevent infections and any blocked needles Push the capped needle straight into the pen and twist it until it is tight Pull off the outer needle shield (cap) and keep it. You will reuse it later Hold the pen with firm pressure against the skin at a 90-degree angle. Then press the button to retract the needle Once the needle is inserted into your skin, hold the pen still for 5 seconds, then release the button to retract (remove) the needle Throw away the used pen, and put the needle in a sharps container or follow your doctor's instructions for safe disposal Mounjaro needs to be taken weekly. It is important to take it at the same time every week. Avoid injecting the medication into the same spot (site) every time to prevent skin irritation.
Treatment begins at a low dose and slowly increases over a few months. This process is called dose titration. How your doses increase depends on how your weight loss journey is progressing and how well you are tolerating the treatment.
The starting dose for all new patients is 2.5mg of Mounjaro.
Patient dosages typically follow:
Month 1: 2.5mg weekly (starting dose)
Month 2: 5mg weekly (Maintenance dose)
Month 3: 7.5mg weekly
Month 4: 10mg weekly (Maintenance dose)
Month 5: 12.5mg weekly
Month 6: 15mg weekly (Maintenance dose)
Its important patient follow and understand the dosage and should alwaus read the patient information leaflet and follow the advice of the Doctor/Pharmacist on dosage regime.
During the clinical trials of Mounjaro, these were the most common side effects (reported by at least 5% of patients)
Nausea, Diarrhoea, Indigestion, Vomiting, Constipation, Stomach pain and Alopecia.
Serious side effects can occur, but they are rare. These may include:
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) Thyroid tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer (a rare but serious potential side effect) Kidney problems or dehydration: Especially if nausea or vomiting leads to loss of fluids.

Mounjaro 5 mg KwikPen: Each multiple-dose pre-filled pen contains 4 doses of 0.6 ml solution which can be administered. Each dose (0.6 ml) contains 5 mg of tirzepatide.
Mounjaro 7.5 mg KwikPen: Each multiple-dose pre-filled pen contains 4 doses of 0.6 ml solution which can be administered. Each dose (0.6 ml) contains 7.5 mg of tirzepatide.
Mounjaro 10 mg KwikPen: Each multiple-dose pre-filled pen contains 4 doses of 0.6 ml solution which can be administered. Each dose (0.6 ml) contains 10 mg of tirzepatide.
Mounjaro 12.5 mg KwikPen: Each multiple-dose pre-filled pen contains 4 doses of 0.6 ml solution which can be administered. Each dose (0.6 ml) contains 12.5 mg of tirzepatide.
Mounjaro 15 mg KwikPen: Each multiple-dose pre-filled pen contains 4 doses of 0.6 ml solution which can be administered. Each dose (0.6 ml) contains 15 mg of tirzepatide.
The other ingredients are sodium phosphate dibasic heptahydrate, benzyl alcohol, glycerol, phenol, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide (see section 2 under ‘Mounjaro contains sodium’ for further information); concentrated hydrochloric acid and water for injections.
